A spa treatment or two is a welcome escape from the cold—especially when the excursion is just a short trip from the ski hills. Enjoy restorative massages, steam baths, and more in these hotel spas’ incredible woodland settings around the world.Shown: Zurich-based architect Jo Brinkmann designed the 21,500-square-foot Grand Hotel Kronenhof Spa in Pontresina, Switzerland. Each area in the spa—from the hot tub to the treatment rooms to the gym—has a view of forest, water, and mountains.

Descend a grand spiral staircase to enter the St. Regis Deer Valley's Remède Spa in Park City, Utah. The outdoor hot tub is open year-round and is built out of stones that reflect the color and texture of the adjacent mountain.

At Copperhill Mountain Lodge Resort spa in Are, Sweden, the treatment rooms resemble traditional Sami kåtor (wood dwellings). Designed by architect Maya Iwdal, the new private spa area is decked out with leather chairs, tables by Tom Dixon, and sitting poufs by Paola Lenti.

The Green Leaf Niseko Spa and Onsen in Hirafu, Japan, features an open-air rotenburo, a natural rock pool fed by a hot mineral spring and ringed with large boulders and pine trees.

Renovated by Toronto-based Studio Munge, Sense, a Rosewood Spa at Rosewood Hotel Georgia in Vancouver, pays homage to the hotel's Roaring Twenties roots with an Art Deco feel. Book the Discover Vancouver package that includes a walk along the nearby Stanley Park Seawall.

Located right on the slopes of Saalbach-Hinterglemm mountain, the spa at Wiesergut, a renovated 1300s estate, makes a bold impression in the Austrian Alps. Floor-to-ceiling windows let the outside in, and distressed wood ceilings and floors are sourced locally, contrasting with natural stone, granite, glass, and exposed concrete.

The modern mountainside spa at Viceroy Snowmass in Colorado was designed by Jean Michel Gathy. Look out for the gilded antler chandelier in the relaxation room—it's the only one on property.

The first postwar hotel in Courchevel, France, Hôtel des Trois Vallées showcases incredible modern design. A recent renovation left much of the original furniture by Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouvé, and Pierre Paulin in place. The wood-paneled spa has a sauna, a mosaic-tiled Turkish bath, and an oversize Jacuzzi.

At the eco-friendly Vigilius Mountain Resort in Italy's South Tyrol, the spa is accessible only by cable car—making it feel truly remote. The hotel resembles a fallen tree, with aromatic larch wood used throughout. The bubbly indoor-outdoor infinity pool fronts the forest, providing a sweeping view of the Dolomites.
